Hydrocele
Hydrocele is a collection of fluid in the scrotal sac. A fluid-filled sac around a testicle, often first noticed as swelling of the scrotum.
Causes :
Congenital
Trauma to scrotum
Inflammation of scrotum
Cancer of testes
Filariasis
Symptoms :
Swelling in scrotal area
Scrotal skin is thickened
In 5% of cases there is inguinal hernia along with hydrocele
Swelling gradually increases in size
It is painless but if infection occurs pain may occur
Diagnosis :
It can be diagnosed by clinical examination and confirmation by a monograph of scrotal area.
Treatment :
Tapping
Evacuation of hydrocele fluid by aspiration / tapping by trocar and cannula under local anesthesia.
Operation (eversion of sac)
trough scrotal incision the hydrocele sac is opened, the fluid sucked out and edges of the sac are everted and stitched behind on the back of the testis.
Hydrocelectomy
In this procedure whole of the sac is excised and remaining edge is sutured or electro cauterized to prevent hemorrhage
